GUBOPiK Uncovers Illegal Migrant Legalisation Scheme That Operated for Several Years

GUBOPiK of the Interior Ministry has detained four Belarusian citizens and two foreign nationals suspected of organising illegal migration.

According to the Interior Ministry, the scheme had been operating for several years. The suspects allegedly fabricated and submitted knowingly false documents from fictitious and real employers to state institutions. Based on these documents, migrants from Central Asian countries obtained entry visas and temporary residence permits in Belarus. After registration, the foreigners remained in Belarus but engaged in other activities.

Investigators have preliminarily identified 120 people who used these services.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on the organisation of illegal migration. The suspects have been detained. During searches at their residences, electronic storage devices, financial and business documentation, and large amounts of cash were seized.

Investigators are identifying other individuals involved in the scheme, as well as the suspects’ clients, with a view to their expulsion from Belarus.
