GPS Tracker Found in Freight Railcar That Traveled to Belarus and Ukraine

A device resembling a GPS tracker was found in a freight railcar in Poznań. It was discovered by a railway employee on Monday, June 15, during maintenance work on rolling stock, who then notified the police, reported TVP24.

An investigative team was dispatched to the scene. The suspicious object will be sent for forensic examination.

“This object, resembling a GPS tracker, will undergo laboratory examination, which should primarily determine what kind of device it is, what possible messages or data it contained, and what traces we may be able to recover from it.”, said police spokesperson Łukasz Paterski.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office under an article concerning the unlawful acquisition of information. Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has been informed of the situation.

The railcar in which the device was found had been at a workshop in Poznań since mid-February and had traveled to Ukraine and Belarus over the past year.
