Government Removes Plots in 10 Districts of Homiel Region From List of Radiation-Hazardous Lands

The Belarusian government has removed land plots in 10 districts of Homiel Region from the list of radiation-hazardous lands.

“The document provides for the exclusion of land plots in the Brahin, Vetka, Zhlobin, Kalinkavichy, Karma, Lelchytsy, Loyeu, Mazyr, Rechytsa and Chachersk districts of Homiel Region, with a total area of 940.1079 hectares, from radiation-hazardous exclusion lands and their transfer to economic use,” the Council of Ministers’ press service said.

In addition, plots covering 378.7160 hectares in the Brahin and Vetka districts have been classified as radiation-hazardous lands with restricted economic use.

It should be noted that such resolutions are adopted annually. The government regularly reviews the area of radiation-hazardous lands contaminated as a result of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. This year marks 40 years since the accident.
