Goods Trade Deficit Continued to Narrow in April

Belarus’s goods trade deficit amounted to $517.7 million in April. It narrowed by 12.7% compared with the same month last year. In January–April, the goods trade deficit decreased by 18.3% to $1.87 billion.

In April, Belarusian goods exports increased by 26.7% to $4.1 billion, while imports rose by 20.6% to $4.62 billion.

In trade with CIS countries, exports in April grew by 19.7% to $2.89 billion, while imports increased by 21.7% to $2.7 billion. The monthly trade surplus with the region amounted to $172.9 million, 4.8% lower than a year earlier.

Exports of Belarusian goods to countries outside the CIS rose by 46.8% in April to $1.22 billion. Imports from those countries increased by 18.9% to $1.9 billion. The trade deficit with non-CIS countries narrowed by 10.9% to $690.6 million.

In January–April, Belarusian goods exports increased by 22.6% to $15.2 billion, while imports rose by 16.2% to $17.04 billion.

In trade with CIS countries, Belarusian exports grew by 21.3% to $10.8 billion, while imports from those countries increased by 17.2% to $10 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries more than doubled to $785.6 million.

Exports to countries outside the CIS increased by 25.7% over the first four months of the year to $4.38 billion. Imports from those countries rose by 14.8% to $7.03 billion. The trade deficit with non-CIS countries amounted to $2.65 billion, or $10 million more than a year earlier.
