Fragments From Russia’s War Against Ukraine Melted Down in Brest for Monument in Moscow

A ceremony was held in the Brest region to melt down coins for the “Living Memory of Grateful Generations” monument on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. The alloy made from nearly 12 million coins also included fragments collected from the battlefields of the war against Ukraine, which Russia refers to as a “special military operation,” as well as crosses belonging to those killed. This was reported by Paralympian Aliaksei Talai, whose foundation is implementing the project, writes TASS.

“An important point is that this alloy includes 10-12 million coins, fragments from the SVO battlefields, and crosses of the fallen boys,” he said.

According to him, the coins were collected over five years from Russian and Belarusian families, residents of CIS countries, and compatriots living abroad. This is the third monument within the framework of the project. The first was installed in Minsk in 2022 using 130,000 coins, the second in Brest in 2024 using half a million coins. In 2025, a monument made from 5 million coins was unveiled on Poklonnaya Hill.
