Former KGB Officer Detained After Returning From Poland, Rights Group Says

The human rights centre Viasna has reported the detention of Ihar Sutyrka, 39. He was detained on April 10 after returning from Poland.

Sutyrka previously served as an officer of the KGB but left the agency in 2014.

According to Viasna, he holds both Belarusian and Polish citizenship.

After leaving the KGB, he worked as a software developer. He lived in Poland for several years. Human rights defenders say he is now accused of treason under Article 356 of the Criminal Code.
