The creators of the film — director Eimantas Belickas and screenwriters Alexandrina Glagoljewa, and George Blanc — tell the story of a man often referred to as the “Eastern European Nelson Mandela”. Through the memories of relatives and associates, the film reveals not only his struggle against an authoritarian system, but also the personal side of his life — support, love and solidarity.

The film includes archival footage from court hearings, personal materials and stories of solidarity from different countries. It also addresses the theme of support among political prisoners and the strength of human connections even in conditions of isolation.

A separate part of the film was shot in Vilnius, capturing Bialiatski’s first days of freedom after a long separation from his family.

The film was produced by the Fourth Version film company and is in Belarusian, Russian and English with Lithuanian subtitles. Post-production for the documentary Bialiatski / Unbroken was supported by ArtPower Belarus.

The creators plan to continue the film’s festival run and organise international screenings in order to draw attention to the situation in Belarus and broaden understanding of the many years of experience of Belarusian human rights defenders.

A discussion with the film team will take place after the screening. Tickets can be purchased here.
