A former employee is suspected of depriving an IT company of access to its social media accounts and advertising dashboards. A criminal case has now been opened against her, the Belarusian Interior Ministry’s press service reported.
According to the ministry, representatives of an international IT company contacted the capital’s police to report the loss of access to corporate social media accounts. The company’s operations were partially paralyzed, causing an estimated loss of about 6,000 rubles.
“Cybercrime officers established that the crime was committed by a former employee — a 33-year-old resident of the Minsk region. The woman was responsible for administering social media and advertising accounts. After leaving the company, she changed the passwords and reset two-factor authentication settings,” the police statement said.
The Interior Ministry’s video also showed a fragment of the woman’s testimony.
“I decided to change all the passwords, deleted all users who could access the accounts, and closed all advertising dashboards,” she said.
The ministry added that the motive was dissatisfaction with her severance pay, and the woman “tried to restore justice on her own.”
A criminal case has been initiated for blocking and modifying computer information.
