EHU, ICC, Integration of Belarusians: Bialiatski Meets Lithuanian Prime Minister

Nobel laureate and head of the Viasna human rights centre Ales Bialiatski met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.

As reported by Viasna, Bialiatski expressed gratitude for solidarity with Belarusian human rights and non-governmental organisations. He stressed the importance of further use of mechanisms of the International Criminal Court in relation to events in Belarus. It is recalled that Lithuania has submitted a referral to the ICC against Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Particular attention during the meeting was also paid to pressure on the European Humanities University (EHU) and the situation with political repression in Belarus. In addition, the discussion covered trade union activities and cooperation with the International Labour Organization, the integration of Belarusians who have been forced to relocate to Lithuania, and the effectiveness of sanctions policy.
