Educational Initiative Heta Baza Declared an “Extremist Formation” in Belarus

Belarus’ KGB has designated the educational initiative Heta Baza as an “extremist formation.”

The project’s website and accounts on Telegram, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube have been declared “extremist.” Uladzimir Chumakou and Yauhen Baziuk were named as being affiliated with the “formation.”

Heta Baza is a youth educational initiative.

“Our mission is to educate Belarusian youth both inside Belarus and abroad. We seek to promote a culture of democracy and peace, activism and civic engagement, as well as solidarity and mutual assistance through educational activities”, Heta Baza says.

The neo-Nazi Telegram channel “NSOOBE Ostenland” was also designated an “extremist formation.”

Accusations of extremism in Belarus are used to fight opponents of the authorities and dissent in general.
