Drone Carrying Cigarettes Flies From Belarus to Lithuania, Three Detained

On the night of February 18, Lithuanian border guards spotted a drone flying from the direction of Belarus near the village of Sabaliūnai in the Šalčininkai District. The unmanned aerial vehicle was forced to land and crashed several hundred meters from the border, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported.

A package containing 1,000 packs of Belarusian NZ Gold cigarettes was attached to the drone. Nearby, border guards found a dent in the snow from another package and footprints. A service dog followed the trail and led officers to a private house.

After a search of the house, three men aged 35, 36 and 42 were detained. A package containing 1,000 packs of cigarettes was found in a sewage truck parked in the yard.

All three men were placed under arrest for one month. They had previously been detained on charges related to smuggling.
