The Belarusian Ministry of Defence has said that the delivery of call-up notices for military training shortly before the reporting time is linked to snap combat readiness checks and does not constitute an organisational error.
The question, “Why does a call-up notice for military training often arrive right before reporting to the military enlistment office?” was answered by the ministry’s official representative Natallia Haurusik. According to her, the main purpose of such measures is to assess the actual readiness of military units and reservists. Plans for the checks are not disclosed in advance, and the notification period may be less than 24 hours.
“First of all, because of the sudden nature of combat readiness checks. The main objective of such a check is to assess the real state of the troops and citizens’ readiness to defend the Motherland. Therefore, plans are not disclosed in advance, and the time for notification is minimal and may be less than 24 hours. The army assesses the ability of citizens to report promptly and of units to be rapidly staffed, which cannot be verified if there is advance warning. Thus, a call-up notice on the eve of reporting is not an organisational error, but a planned element of a combat readiness check,” she said.
It is noted that under the law, during the period of training, reservists retain their average monthly salary or receive compensation, depending on the form of ownership of the employer. Compensation is also предусмотрена for unemployed individuals.
Earlier, complaints appeared on social media from citizens saying that in some cases call-up notices are delivered only a few hours before the specified reporting time. Some users referred to a Council of Ministers resolution stating that a call-up notice for training must be delivered no later than seven days before it begins.
