A 35-year-old man is suspected of misappropriating and embezzling funds belonging to a gardening association on a particularly large scale. The Lida District Department of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against him.

According to investigators, the man was a member of the gardening association and was responsible for collecting money from new property owners for connection to a transformer substation. Between 2024 and 2026, he received funds from citizens intended to cover the association’s expenses.

The money was supposed to be used to ensure electricity supply and to modernise and expand the distribution network, but the man allegedly disposed of it at his own discretion and spent it on personal needs. The total damage exceeded 18,500 Belarusian rubles.

All circumstances of the incident are being established. A final legal assessment of the suspect’s actions will be made following the investigation, the Investigative Committee’s press service reported.
