Criminal Case Opened Against Slonim Resident Who Complained of Pressure Over 2016 “Like”

A resident of Slonim who spoke about pressure on his family over a social media “like” from a decade ago has been charged in a criminal case. His wife has been given an administrative penalty for subscribing to an “extremist” resource.

The Slonim District Department of Internal Affairs said the 47-year-old man in 2016 had liked content insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka. During checks, “extremist” subscriptions were found on both his and his wife’s accounts, a Telegram channel close to law enforcement reported.

“During further checks, the man was found to be subscribed to extremist resources. An extremist subscription was also found on his 46-year-old wife, who was brought to administrative responsibility following the inspection. The man is currently a defendant in a criminal case,” a representative of the district department said.

Earlier, the man said that on March 5 his wife had been summoned to the Investigative Committee without a formal notice, where she was threatened with losing her job and foster children. The man recorded several videos on TikTok describing the situation and went to the prosecutor’s office to file a complaint against the investigators.
