Commission On Return Meets For First Time This Year

On March 5 the first meeting this year of the Commission for the Review of Appeals from Belarusian Citizens Regarding Offences They Have Committed was held. The meeting was chaired by Prosecutor General Dzmitry Hora.

“In their appeals, citizens stated their desire to return to Belarus, lead a law-abiding lifestyle, and respect national symbols and traditions,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

It was not reported how many appeals the commission reviewed.

Members of the commission decided to inform applicants whether criminal cases, administrative proceedings or unexecuted decisions on administrative arrest exist against them.

The commission on return was established in early February 2023 by a decree of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. It is intended to review appeals from Belarusians who have left the country and fear returning home because of repression. The commission also determines the conditions under which citizens may return to Belarus.
