Coale Says Possible Lukashenka Visit to United States Discussed

During a meeting between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and US President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale, the possibility of Lukashenka visiting the United States was discussed. Coale spoke about this after the talks.

“We also discussed a possible visit by President Lukashenka to the United States and will work on organising it,” Coale was quoted as saying by Lukashenka’s press service.

Coale added that US President Donald Trump “constantly speaks about President Lukashenka, describing him as a very good friend and a respected world leader.”

The meeting also covered the situation in the Middle East. Lukashenka said that the United States is fighting against Belarus’s allies, stated that he is ready to adhere to agreements on political prisoners, and hinted at the possibility of direct air links with the United States.

It should be noted that Lukashenka was among the first to sign a document on joining the Peace Council founded by Donald Trump. However, he did not attend the organisation’s first in-person meeting. Lukashenka explained this by logistical difficulties.

“What, was I supposed to fly to Washington via South Africa because of these sanctions? If you wanted to see me there, resolve the issue so that I can fly there and back without problems,” he said.

Instead of him, Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou was expected to attend the meeting, but he was also absent. The Foreign Ministry explained that the minister had not received a US visa.
