U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Coale plans to return to Minsk in about a month and hopes for the release of hundreds of political prisoners, Reuters reports.
According to Coale, he expects to visit Belarus again in about a month to secure the release of more political prisoners.
“I hope hundreds (are released). I don’t know. That’s my hope. I’m confident that we’ll get a lot more out,” Coale told the agency.
Today, following talks between Coale and Aliaksandr Lukashenka, 25 people were released. They were taken from Belarus to Lithuania. In exchange, the United States will lift sanctions on Bellesbumprom and Lakokraska. Coale also said that the release of political prisoners and the lifting of sanctions will continue.
