By Teatr to Present Physical Theatre Performance “Voices of the Odyssey” in Warsaw About War, Exile and Memory

On June 6 and 7, By Teatr will stage “Voices of the Odyssey” at Komuna Warszawa, a performance in which events from thousands of years ago are reflected in the present and future, in a world marked by anxiety, migration and the search for belonging.

The production is an original physical theatre performance inspired by the experiences of refugees and migrants.

Through movement, body art, original music and contemporary lighting design, the performance tells a story of war, exile, memory and the human need for belonging. The creators abandon traditional text in favor of “visual poetry” — a universal language of the body that can be understood regardless of the audience’s language or background.

Ancient symbols take on contemporary meaning: Polyphemus becomes a metaphor for control and oppression, while the Sirens and the Lotus-Eaters symbolize propaganda and disinformation.

The creators pose the question: what does it mean to “return home” when home no longer exists? And what is home in the first place?

The cast consists of graduates of the By Teatr studio — professional performers from Belarus and Ukraine whose personal experiences lend authenticity to the production.

Tickets are available here.
