Bus Driver Sentenced to 1.5 Years for Fatal Run-Over of Disembarking Passenger

A court in Polatsk has sentenced a bus driver whose actions led to the death of a 93-year-old woman. He was given 1.5 years in a settlement colony, the Vitsyebsk Region Prosecutor’s Office reported.

According to case materials, the 61-year-old driver began closing the doors while a 93-year-old passenger was getting off the bus. The woman fell onto the roadway. The driver could have seen that she had fallen, but he started moving and ran over her. The pensioner died at the scene from her injuries.

The Polatsk District and City Court sentenced the driver to 1.5 years in a settlement colony. He has also been banned from driving for five years. The sentence has entered into force.
