Books By Sieviaryniec And Skrabets, And EHU Textbook Added To List Of “Extremist Materials”

The Ministry of Information has updated its list of “extremist materials.” Several books have been added, including an EHU textbook on the political system of Belarus. The decision to designate the publications as extremist was made by the Zavadski District Court of Minsk on August 12.

The books added to the list include:

  • “Nonviolence and Belarus.” – Warsaw, 1999. – 248 pp.;
  • “Bykau on Svaboda (Svaboda Library. 21st Century. – Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, 2004. – 536 pp.”;
  • “The Price of Freedom, or Confessions of an Opposition Politician / Siarhei Skrabets. – Minsk, 2019. – 188 pp.: ill. – (Belarusian Prison Literature series; issue 8)”;
  • “Political System of the Republic of Belarus: Study Guide / U. Rouda. – Vilnius: EHU, 2011. – 354 pp.”;
  • “The Young Front Generation. The History of Young People Born in 1970–1985 / Pavel Sieviaryniec. – Minsk, 2004. – 112 pp.”;
  • “The Belarusian Uprising / Piotr Rudkouski. – Vilnius: Institute of Belarusian Studies, 2007. – 252 pp. – (Nasha Niva Bookstore)”;

It should be recalled that in Belarus, accusations of extremism are used to persecute opponents of Lukashenka and to crack down on dissent more broadly.
