A citizen of Belarus was killed when a Mi-8 helicopter crashed at Matan as-Sarra air base in southern Libya on February 9. The helicopter, which was performing a medical evacuation flight, crashed while approaching for landing. There were five people on board.
“According to one of my subscribers, the right-seat pilot on the medical evacuation flight was a Belarusian citizen identified as A. M., while the aircraft commander was a Russian citizen S. P. (who previously served in the same regiment as my subscriber). Two medical workers and the patient being transported were also killed,” the Telegram channel “OtVinta” reported.
According to Libyan media, the helicopter was evacuating a wounded serviceman. Al-Wasat named three of the deceased — two Libyan soldiers and a male nurse.
