Belarusian enterprises dismissed more employees than they hired in April, according to data published by Belstat. The statistics do not include microenterprises and small businesses without departmental subordination.
A total of 55,200 people were hired in April, while 70,200 were dismissed. The number of dismissals exceeded the number of hires by 15,023.
Compared with April 2025, the number of hires increased by 5.2%, while the number of dismissals remained at last year’s level.
In January-April, Belarusian enterprises hired 203,350 people and dismissed 219,500. The overall balance was negative, with dismissals exceeding hires by 16,200.
During the first four months of the year, hiring increased by 3.6%, while dismissals rose by 4.8%.
In April, the largest negative employment balances were recorded in agriculture, forestry and fishing (-1,301), manufacturing (-3,496), trade (-341), transport and logistics (-1,669), information and communications (-54), education (-2,911), healthcare (-1,820), and arts, sports, entertainment and recreation (-2,052).
Positive employment balances in April were recorded only in construction (+183) and public administration (+28).
The April figures may be linked to seasonal factors, including the end of the heating season.
Over the January-April period, dismissals exceeded hires in manufacturing (-5,911), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-319), healthcare (-2,230), transport and logistics (-3,981), trade (-783), and education (-3,032).
During January-April, positive employment balances were recorded in construction (+2,389), information and communications (+518), and public administration (+132).
