Belarus’s Foreign Ministry has advised citizens to refrain from non-essential travel to France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Albania, or to postpone or cancel such trips. The ministry cited “a sharp deterioration in the domestic political situation, accompanied by mass demonstrations, including those involving radical groups, reports of disproportionate use of force by law enforcement agencies and arbitrary detentions”.

Belarusians already in these countries have been advised to exercise caution, avoid large gatherings and protest areas, and monitor announcements from local authorities and Belarusian diplomatic missions.

“Curfews have already been introduced in some regions of France. Their extension to the entire country cannot be ruled out, nor can the introduction of a state of emergency. Similar restrictive measures may also be introduced in other countries affected by unrest, including restrictions on public transport and disruptions to internet and communications services,” the Foreign Ministry said.

If the situation deteriorates further, Belarusian citizens are advised to leave these countries using available commercial routes.

“We also draw attention to the possibility that consular and legal assistance may be less accessible because Belarusian diplomatic missions in these countries have limited staff. We recommend saving the emergency contact details of these missions in advance,” the ministry said.
