Belarusian Fined for Concealing Armored Glass From Customs

A truck driver importing passenger cars into Belarus from Lithuania concealed an armored vehicle window from customs authorities because he intended to keep it for personal use. The man was later ordered to pay a substantial fine.

The 35-year-old Belarusian was crossing the Lithuanian-Belarusian border through the Kamenny Loh border checkpoint. During an oral declaration, he stated that he was transporting nothing other than passenger cars.

Customs officers inspected the vehicles and noticed a window for a Mercedes-Benz in one of them. The driver said he was transporting it for personal use and had hidden it to avoid paying customs duties, the State Customs Committee reported.

The value of the window was estimated at 64,000 Belarusian rubles. By concealing it, the driver attempted to avoid paying more than 20,000 rubles in customs duties. He was held administratively liable and fined 6,300 rubles.
