Representatives of the Belarusian democratic forces took part in the Global Progressive Mobilization international platform at the invitation of the Spanish prime minister. The platform brings together political leaders, parties, trade unions and public organizations to coordinate actions in the field of defending democracy and social justice.
Belarus was represented by Tsikhanouskaya’s diplomatic adviser Dzianis Kuchynski and head of the democratic forces’ mission in Madrid Tatsiana Marynich.
As the Office of Tsikhanouskaya reported, the participation of the Belarusian delegation made it possible to raise the issue of Belarus on the agenda of another international platform.
For the Belarusian democratic forces, it also became an opportunity to participate in shaping modern transnational mechanisms for supporting democracy.
The platform also provides an opportunity to expand partnerships in Europe and beyond. Contacts were established with representatives of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and the Party of European Socialists (PES).
According to Kuchynski, it was also possible to expand contacts with representatives of countries from the Global South and Latin America.
“Within the framework of the conference, there was an opportunity to establish contact with countries from the Global South and Latin America. I had a brief conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva — one of the key figures of the G20 and the leader of a country that plays a significant role in global politics and international economic relations”, Kuchynski noted.
Participation in the forum made it possible to strengthen the presence of Belarusian democratic forces in international democratic networks, expand cooperation with political parties, non-governmental organizations and trade unions, present the Belarusian experience as an example of the struggle for democracy and civil rights, and strengthen Belarus’ position as part of the global coalition of democratic forces.
