Belarusian Culture Minister Speaks in Favor of Dress Code in Theaters

Belarusian Culture Minister Ruslan Charnetski spoke in favor of introducing a dress code in theaters, while noting that compulsory measures on the issue would be inappropriate. He made the remarks in an interview with ONT television.

According to the minister, going to the theater should be seen as a celebration, and the appearance of audience members should express respect for the work of performers and everyone involved in creating a production.

“People should understand that going to the theater is akin to a celebration. A great many people work to create this celebration for the audience,” Charnetski said.

“Of course, introducing a dress code by force is a thankless task. Every audience member should understand where they are coming — that is absolutely certain,” he added.
