Belarusian Citizen Caught In Poland Trying To Bring Stolen Bicycles From Germany

Polish border guards detained a Belarusian citizen who was traveling from Germany. Twenty-four bicycles were found in the van he was driving, seven of which had been stolen in Germany.

“On Aug. 11, while carrying out tasks related to the temporary reintroduction of border controls on the route into Poland, officers of the border post in Slubice stopped a van driven by a 35-year-old Belarusian citizen.

The vehicle’s cargo compartment contained 24 bicycles of various brands. The officers suspected that the bicycles might have been stolen in Germany or other Western European countries.

The German side has already confirmed that seven of the seized bicycles had previously been stolen in Germany. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the remaining 17 bicycles”, the Polish Border Guard said.

The man will be charged with receiving stolen property. He has been handed over to the police. The Border Guard has also initiated administrative proceedings that could result in the man’s deportation.
