The Ministry of Communications and Informatization has summed up the performance of the telecommunications sector in the first half of the year.
“Significant investment is being made in the construction of fiber-optic communication lines to provide people with access to modern services at high speeds. In the first half of the year, fiber-optic lines were extended to 50 settlements.
As a result of these measures, the number of subscribers connected using GPON technology reached 3.193 million, an increase of 34,300 compared with the beginning of the year. More than 62% of fixed broadband subscribers use internet access at speeds of 100 Mbps or higher”, the ministry said.
It also noted that 98.6% of Belarusian territory is currently covered by UMTS cellular networks and 94.6% by LTE networks. Population coverage stands at 99.9% and 99.6%, respectively.
The penetration rate of wireless broadband services reached 104.1 subscribers per 100 residents in the past quarter.
