Belarusian and Russian Defense Ministers Discuss “Future Areas of Cooperation”

On June 3, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Khrenin met with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on the sidelines of a meeting of the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers, the Belarusian Defense Ministry reported.

Belousov said that Belarus and Russia continue to develop military and military-technical cooperation “amid continuous hostile activity by NATO near our borders.”

The Russian defense minister also commented on the recent Belarusian-Russian military exercises.

“This is a very important element in strengthening our cooperation and the security of our states,” he said.

“Our meetings and communication are regular. We use every opportunity to discuss the situation and develop appropriate courses of action within the CIS, the CSTO, and during personal contacts. This is required by the situation currently developing around the Union State,” Khrenin said.

The sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and possible directions for further interaction.
