Director of the Department of African, Asian and Oceanian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ahhad al-Salibi, met with Belarusian Ambassador to Damascus Yury Sluka, the Syrian agency SANA reported.
“During the meeting, the sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries following the resumption of the Belarusian embassy’s work in Damascus,” the statement said.
It should be recalled that the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, which had closely cooperated with the authorities in Minsk, was overthrown in December 2024. The former president fled to Russia. Syria is currently governed by a transitional administration headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa.
On January 23, 2025, on the instructions of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou visited Damascus and met with the head of Syria’s new administration Ahmed al-Sharaa and the head of the General Intelligence Service Anas Khattab.
