Belarus shares Russia’s position on resolving the conflict with Ukraine. This was stated by Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou at a joint board meeting of the Belarusian and Russian foreign ministries.
“We welcome and support Russia’s efforts aimed at settling the Ukrainian crisis and reaching a peace agreement. We share the position of the Russian Federation that a final and sustainable settlement of this conflict is possible only through the complete and irreversible elimination of its causes,” he said.
Maksim Ryzhankou noted that the ongoing dialogue at the highest level makes it possible not only to promptly address the most complex issues but also to demonstrate the “special nature of brotherly relations.” As an example, he cited last year’s signing of the Security Guarantees Treaty. Representatives have already been appointed under the treaty to develop mechanisms for its implementation.
“While Europe chooses a course of militarization, border closures, and sanctions policy, we — together with our Russian colleagues — are building a fundamentally new, different model of security architecture based on mutual trust and allied commitments.
In this context, our joint work to strengthen trust and create a stable security architecture in our common Eurasian space is important. Our principled position remains unchanged: security must be single and indivisible for everyone. It was precisely this that the Third Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, which we recently held in Minsk, was dedicated to,” he added.
He said he was ready to discuss with Russian colleagues the further development of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity. Ryzhankou also noted progress in economic relations and continued cooperation with Russian regions, within which 18 meetings have been held with the heads of constituent entities.
The minister mentioned measures aimed at further creating equal conditions for citizens, mutual support by Belarus and Russia on international platforms — in particular, countering anti-Russian initiatives.
The Foreign Ministry supports Russia’s initiative to implement the Declaration on Enhancing the Role of International Law and its guiding principles on the qualification of unilateral coercive measures. Ryzhankou expressed interest in coordination to promote economic and humanitarian interests in the countries of the Global South, as well as within the SCO and BRICS structures.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov thanked the Belarusian side for productive cooperation on all matters of the common agenda.
“Together with our Belarusian friends, we are advancing the Declaration on Enhancing the Role of International Law and its guiding principles regarding the qualification of unilateral coercive measures as unlawful.
In May, our representatives at the UN circulated it in the Security Council and at the General Assembly, making significant efforts to expand international support in countering the practice of adopting illegal unilateral sanctions. On the initiative of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter — where both Belarus and the Russian Federation participate and play an important role — the UN General Assembly in June adopted a resolution establishing the International Day Against Unilateral Coercive Measures. This day will be observed annually on 4 December,” he said.
Lavrov also outlined the agenda of the joint board meeting.
“We will discuss the joint use of humanitarian policy instruments, the promotion of traditional values, the preservation of historical memory, and then consider cooperation with friendly states and their associations, as well as our approaches to relations with those countries whose governments pursue an openly unfriendly policy toward us.
And, of course, this will include our relations with organizations that deviate from their core principles and, instead of impartiality and equidistance, adopt political positions. Most of these are pro-Western positions, and we will devote special attention to sharing experience in the information support of foreign policy,” he said.
