This was announced by Belarusian Defence Minister Viktar Khrenin at a meeting of the joint board of the two countries’ defence ministries.
He stressed that Belarus and Russia are strategic allies and partners, bound not only by treaty obligations but also by shared values, history and responsibility for security within the Union State.
“The past period has been one of intensive and substantive work for our defence ministries. We have moved on to the practical implementation of the Strategic Partnership Programme in the Military Sphere for 2026-2030, approved at the previous board meeting in Moscow. The bilateral military cooperation plan for 2026 includes more than 160 joint activities, most of which involve practical training in specific tasks: exercises, drills, training sessions and exchanges of experience,” he said.
According to Khrenin, troop training takes into account the modern nature of armed conflict, including lessons learned from Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Experience gained in real combat conditions — unmanned systems, electronic warfare equipment, robotic systems and new tactical techniques — is being incorporated immediately into the Belarusian army’s training system. Our Russian colleagues share their advanced developments with us, and this is one of the most valuable aspects of our alliance,” he said.
Military-technical cooperation is also continuing, with deliveries of military equipment and supplies under way and cooperation between the two countries’ defence industries deepening.
“Nuclear deterrence within the Union State is also being developed in the interests of maintaining strategic parity and deterring a potential aggressor,” he noted.
Khrenin described the situation surrounding the two countries as “complex and dynamic”, pointing to increased military training, combat readiness and intelligence activities near their borders, as well as the build-up of forces on NATO’s eastern flank.
“Under these conditions, our joint work is not a formality but a practical necessity. It is precisely the unity of Belarus and Russia that allows us to keep the situation in the region under stable control,” he said.
