Belarus is considering a ban on advertising e-cigarettes and other smoking devices, as well as expanding the list of places where smoking will be fully prohibited.
The proposal was outlined at a press conference by Volha Bartman, head of the Public Health Department at the Republican Centre for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, according to “Sputnik Belarus”.
She said work on tightening regulations continues both at the EAEU level and domestically. A new law is being prepared in Belarus to consolidate rules governing tobacco and nicotine-containing products. The draft is undergoing interagency review and already includes additional restrictions — in particular, a complete ban on advertising electronic smoking devices.
According to Bartman, advertising of vapes and other electronic smoking products is currently widespread.
The bill also introduces stronger protections for non-smokers by expanding the list of places where smoking — including e-cigarettes — will be prohibited. Proposed measures include banning smoking on the porches of apartment buildings and dormitories.
Recent data indicate that the highest share of users of nicotine-containing products is in the 19–29 age group.
