Belarus carries out exports through 13 ports in Russia, Transport and Communications Minister Aliaksei Lyakhnovich said. According to him, in January–October the volume of transshipment of Belarusian cargo through Russian ports increased by 3.7 percent, BelTA reported.
Lyakhnovich noted that the main export flows are directed eastward using the infrastructure of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
“A pilot project has been implemented to consolidate and supply goods to far-abroad countries. Belarusian export cargoes have been shipped to Africa (Egypt, South Africa), Latin America (Nicaragua), Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Myanmar, the Republic of Korea, India), and the Middle East (the United Arab Emirates).
To reduce delivery costs for Belarusian exports, the ministry is holding negotiations to lower railway tariffs. As a result, the railway administrations of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan have granted discounts on certain types of Belarusian cargo,” the minister said.
Lyakhnovich also noted that this year the project to modernize sections of railway infrastructure of the 9th Pan-European Transport Corridor toward ports in northwestern Russia is expected to be completed.
