Belarus: Broad Money Supply Declines In January

Broad money supply declined in January, while the volume of cash in circulation continued to grow, according to the latest statistics from the National Bank of Belarus.

As of February 1, broad money supply stood at 100.55 billion roubles. In January, it decreased by 2.4%, or 2.48 billion roubles.

The regulator’s press service drew attention to a slowdown in the growth rate of average broad money supply.

“The year-on-year increase in average rouble money supply amounted to 25.8%, compared with 28% in January 2025. Average broad money supply increased by 16.2% over the year, against 17.5% a year earlier,” the statement said.

The volume of cash in circulation rose in January by 83.1 million roubles to 14.56 billion roubles.

The M1 monetary aggregate decreased in January by 1.66 billion roubles to 33.71 billion roubles.

Money supply in the national definition fell by 1.76 billion roubles and amounted to 63.08 billion roubles as of February 1.

Rouble money supply declined by 1.9 billion roubles in January to 65.66 billion roubles.

Foreign currency deposits fell in January by 46.7 million US dollars to 12.03 billion US dollars. Of that amount, household deposits increased by 52.1 million US dollars to 5.07 billion US dollars, while corporate deposits decreased by 98.8 million US dollars to 6.95 billion US dollars.
