Belarus and Russia Maintain Agricultural Supply Balances — Patrushev

Belarus and Russia are maintaining balances in agricultural product supplies. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at a congress of the National Union of Milk Producers, Soyuzmoloko. He also supported a proposal to create an expert group to more precisely manage mutual supplies.

Patrushev was asked about concerns among businesses over dairy product supplies from Belarus, given that Belarus accounts for 80% of Russia’s milk imports and that operating conditions differ between Russian and Belarusian producers. In particular, attention was drawn to state support and price regulation in Belarus.

Patrushev believes that this does not prevent Russians from competing with Belarusians.

“In my view, you have been handling this quite well and have often won the competitive struggle. After all, store shelves are mostly represented by domestic producers. Nevertheless, within the framework of the Union State, a single market for goods and services has practically already been formed. And, of course, on market conditions, taking into account the Union State, we are glad to welcome goods from Belarus on our market. At the same time, supply balances have been formed and are being maintained. This is stated both by representatives of the ministry from the Republic of Belarus and by our own leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.

“If you are talking about the need to create a working group so that business is more broadly represented in this work, in principle I am not opposed. We have two ministers present today, so that they involve business in their work on determining supply volumes and balance volumes.

In principle, all of this is entirely possible. And we will, of course, adhere first and foremost to the principle of protecting our own producers. I think you can see that our business feels quite confident in this area. But I can again return to where I began. Despite fairly difficult conditions, we are increasing production volumes of both raw milk and products made from it. Therefore, of course, we will work with our colleagues from Belarus. Let us create the expert group and discuss all issues related to mutual supplies,” he added.
