Aliaksandr Lukashenka has signed a law aimed at streamlining administrative procedures related to the legal protection of intellectual property.
The law regulates the payment of remuneration to authors for the use of work-related scientific works, inventions, utility models, industrial designs, plant varieties, integrated circuit topologies, and trade secrets.
The use of musical works without the authors’ consent will be permitted for the production and distribution of certain television programs included in the mandatory publicly accessible broadcasting package, as well as during major state political, public, and cultural events. In such cases, the authors will receive remuneration.
The law also shortens the time required to examine applications, issue certificates for trademarks and geographical indications, and register industrial property rights.
“The signing of the law is intended to systematize the legal regulation of public relations related to the protection of intellectual property.”, Lukashenka’s press service said.
