The average salary in January fell by 355.6 roubles, amounting to 2,757.1 roubles before income tax. This was reported by Belstat. As a rule, December in Belarus records a peak in nominal accrued average wages, linked to the payment of bonuses and so-called “thirteenth salaries.” In January, the indicator typically drops sharply, both due to the absence of additional payments and a lower number of working days.
In real terms, adjusted for inflation, the nationwide average salary increased by 6.3 percent compared with January last year.
In Minsk, the January average amounted to 3,747.8 roubles, rising by 187 roubles over the month. In real terms, the capital’s average increased by 4.9 percent year on year. In the Minsk region, the average salary in December exceeded 2,700 roubles, while in the Homyel region it was above 2,800 roubles. The lowest average was recorded in the Mahilyow region, at 2,271.9 roubles, increasing by 6.4 percent in real terms over the year.
IT workers retained first place in the salary rankings in January, with an average of 7,939.6 roubles. Passenger air transport workers ranked second, earning an average of 7,809.5 roubles, while cargo air transport workers ranked third, with an average of 6,421.4 roubles.
According to Belstat, the lowest salaries among sectors in January were paid to workers in hairdressing salons and beauty parlours, at 1,419.7 roubles. Employees of museums, libraries, and archives earned 1,655.8 roubles, while social workers received 1,920.9 roubles.
Average earnings in crop production in January amounted to 2,252.3 roubles, and in livestock farming to 2,338 roubles. In manufacturing, the average salary stood at 2,791.6 roubles.
In construction, average pre-tax earnings were 3,117.1 roubles, while in retail trade they amounted to 2,291.7 roubles.
The average salary in healthcare was 2,380.1 roubles, while in education it stood at 1,990.2 roubles.
