At least 175 people are being held in custody in the “Hajun case,” the Viasna Human Rights Center reports. These are only confirmed defendants; in reality, the number of detainees is much higher.
It is known that a number of people have been detained since the beginning of the year. Court hearings in the “Hajun case” are taking place almost every day. Since the start of the year, 69 people convicted of “aiding extremism” have been added to the Interior Ministry’s “extremists list.” Most of them were prosecuted in the “Hajun case.”
According to human rights defenders, defendants are mostly sentenced to so-called “home chemistry,” but there are cases in which people have been sentenced to imprisonment.
Belarusian Hajun is a monitoring OSINT project tracking the military activity of Russian and Belarusian forces. The monitoring group was created ahead of the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war by activist Anton Matolka. In early February 2025, security forces gained access to a chat with the project’s bot. After that, the project announced it was ceasing operations.
