An appeal hearing against the acquittal of former SOBR (Special Rapid Response Unit) officer Yury Harauski began in Switzerland today, Viasna reports.

In 2019, Harauski himself told journalists that he had been involved in the disappearances of former Interior Minister Yury Zakharanka, former Deputy Prime Minister Viktar Hanchar and businessman Anatol Krasouski. Nevertheless, in September 2023, the Rorschach District Court acquitted him. The judge found that Harauski had fabricated some of his testimony and said that his role in the abductions remained unclear.

Relatives of the disappeared politicians disagreed with the decision and are seeking a guilty verdict.

The hearing had been scheduled for June 24, but was postponed indefinitely. The appeal was later scheduled to be heard on September 22.
