After Lukashenka Remark, Energy Ministry to Lower Water Temperature in Pipes

The Ministry of Energy has taken measures to limit the operating modes of heat supply systems during periods of severe frost. The ministry took this step after a remark by Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who said that a temperature of +20°C is sufficient for apartments.

“Additionally, the Energy Ministry, on the President’s instruction, has taken measures to limit the operating modes of heat supply systems during periods of severe frost in order to ensure a safety margin and prevent such situations in the future,” Energy Minister Dzianis Maroz said, commenting on a rupture of a heating main in Minsk.

Earlier on Monday, Lukashenka said that apartment temperatures should not reach +25°C in winter.

“But if the water in the pipes had not been 100 or 90 degrees and the pressure had been lower, but 80, with lower pressure. Well, it would have been a bit cooler in the room. Not 25, as we and you are used to, but 20 degrees is enough in a home. I don’t know about you, but for me it’s cool both here and at home, and that’s great,” he said.
