Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that more than 800 drones were heading towards the Russian capital overnight.

“Between 20:30 on October 29 and 07:30 on October 30, 862 UAVs were heading towards the Moscow region,” he said.

According to Sobyanin, most of the drones were intercepted at “distant defensive lines”, while 170 were shot down as they approached Moscow.

The attack paralysed operations at Moscow’s airports. They resumed accepting and dispatching flights only in the morning.

Russian airlines Pobeda and Aeroflot cancelled flights from Moscow to Minsk that were due to arrive in the Belarusian capital overnight and in the morning. A Red Wings flight from Samara has been delayed.

Flight delays and cancellations have also been reported at dozens of airports across Russia.
