Valfovich Explains How the People’s Militia Will Be Inspected

Belarus will conduct an inspection of the readiness of the people’s militia. Aliaksandr Lukashenka publicly issued the relevant instruction last week. Today, State Secretary of the Security Council Aliaksandr Valfovich said his agency was preparing a plan to inspect the establishment and functioning of people’s militia units. He also explained what exactly would be checked.

“First of all, we will look at how local authorities understand what the people’s militia is, how the decision to establish it was made, and how the lists were compiled. We will also look at how the Ministry of Internal Affairs understands this. Under a presidential decree, overall supervision of people’s militia units is exercised by the local authorities, while direct command of the units is the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and local territorial internal affairs bodies,” he said.

According to him, the inspection will also assess how prepared militia members are to carry out their assigned tasks and how their training is organized.

One or two districts are to be inspected in each region. The findings are to be consolidated and reported to Lukashenka by the end of the year.
