Lithuania wants Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) to be designated a terrorist organization. The country’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys made the statement.

“Designating it a terrorist organization would mean that we would consider everyone who has served in or is associated with the GRU to be supporting or facilitating terrorism. Such people should not be present around our businesses or banks, or on our territory. However, this requires a solid legal basis, and that is precisely what we are working on now. All investigations and cases brought before the courts that contain evidence of the involvement not only of Russia but also of a specific agency — in this case, the GRU — will provide the basis on which we seek to have it designated a terrorist organization”, he said, Delfi reports.

According to him, it is necessary to “call what Russia is doing now by its proper name and ensure that it does not go unpunished”.

Earlier this week, Budrys urged his counterparts on the EU Foreign Affairs Council to take action against Russian intelligence.
