https://reform.news/en/belarusian-underground-heads-to-denmark-third-episode-of-pukst-in-the-north-released/The third episode of Reform.news’s documentary project “Pukst in the North” has been released on the YouTube channel “Sasha, What Are You Talking About?!” In the new episode, Siarhei Pukst recalls the freedom of the 1990s and the artists who introduced Northern Europe to an independent Belarus.
The episode focuses on the artistic collective “Belarusian Climate”. In the early 1990s, its members travelled to Denmark and presented the unofficial art of an independent Belarus: performances, verbal cinema, music and photographs of Belarusian deserts taken in sand quarries near Zaslaŭje.
Siarhei Pukst tells the story of the Belarusian underground of that era and the people who became pioneers of cultural diplomacy, even though they themselves would hardly have used that term. He also reflects on what remains of the freedom of the 1990s: an episode in art history, a joke told over a meal, or the air we continue to breathe.
The script was written and narrated by musician Siarhei Pukst. The project is directed by Artsiom Lobach.
New episodes are released every Wednesday on the YouTube channel “Sasha, What Are You Talking About?!”
The project was created by Reform.news with support from the Nordic Council of Ministers.
