Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine’s Defense Forces had carried out strikes over the past 24 hours on an oil refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl Region and a Tu-95MS missile carrier at an airfield in Engels.
The Ukrainian leader noted that the refinery is located about 1,000 kilometers from the front line.
“There were also our appropriate responses to Russia’s war in the Black Sea. In Russia’s Engels, SBU Alpha fighters struck a Tu-95MS missile carrier. It is these aircraft that carry out strikes on Ukraine. Thanks to all our fighters for their precision! This is all a response to their strikes. Russians must feel what their war is like,” he said.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed information about a nighttime strike on the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl. A fire was reported at the facility. The extent of the damage is being assessed.
“The facility is used to meet the needs of the Russian armed forces,” the General Staff said.
Slavneft-YANOS is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries and is part of PJSC Slavneft. The refinery has an annual capacity of about 15 million tonnes of crude oil. It produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.
