U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will arrive in Kyiv on Sept. 6 for talks with the Ukrainian side. The negotiation plan has already been approved, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
“We have just spoken with representatives of the U.S. president. They have already started working with the Russian side. Since our conversation, we have been ready to observe a halt to air strikes against cities involved in the negotiation process. From this moment until the end of Saturday, as well as on Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes against Moscow, and we expect the Russians to do the same regarding Kyiv,” he wrote.
The Ukrainian leader added that diplomatic events involving the U.S. delegation were scheduled in Kyiv for Sept. 6 and said he was ready for a “substantive conversation” with Witkoff and Kushner.
He also heard reports today from Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi on the situation at the front, threats in Ukrainian airspace and the actions of Ukrainian forces.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had announced a ceasefire from midnight on Sept. 5 until Sept. 8. Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would not carry out air strikes against Russia during the visit by U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and expected the same from Moscow. It was reported today that Vladimir Putin had ordered that, starting at midnight on Sept. 5, no strikes be carried out on Kyiv for three days.
