Zelenskyy Says He Would Like to End the War Before Winter, Otherwise Additional Aid Will Be Needed

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned European partners at the European Council summit that his country would require additional assistance if the war continues into the winter.

“Of course, we want to end this war before winter — through diplomacy and pressure on Russia. But we understand who we are dealing with. Putin is war. Therefore, if the war continues, we will need a winter support package. This should include an energy package — gas, diesel fuel and the necessary energy equipment — as well as a missile package of no fewer than 300 missiles for the winter. Let us prepare for this now while at the same time maximising diplomatic efforts. We need concrete decisions,” Zelenskyy said, summarising his address to EU leaders.

He also stressed the importance of unlocking €6 billion from the European Peace Facility. According to Zelenskyy, the funds could be used for air defence systems, long-range munitions and other capabilities that have already proven their effectiveness.
