Zelenskyy: Russians Have Missed Another Opportunity to Bring Peace Closer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a briefing from the negotiating team following its visit to the United States and said that Kyiv had supported an energy ceasefire, but Moscow was not complying with the ceasefire terms.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine was ready to take concrete steps to de-escalate the conflict and bring the war to an end, Zelenskyy’s office reported.

“Ukraine has supported an energy ceasefire. Our position is absolutely clear: Ukraine is ready to guarantee an energy ceasefire, as announced by the president of the United States, and Russia must take corresponding steps.

As of now, there is no evidence that Russia is complying with the conditions announced by the American president,” Zelenskyy said.

Russia had carried out strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure yesterday and today, Zelenskyy noted.

“If the strikes are Russia’s response to the American president’s statement, it means that the Russians have missed another opportunity to bring peace closer,” he said.

Ukrainian officials believe that the US position and pressure on Russia are important for de-escalation.

On October 11, Donald Trump said that Ukraine and Russia had allegedly agreed to an energy ceasefire. According to Trump, it took effect immediately.

Ukraine did not attack energy facilities in Russia on the night of October 12, while Russia continued its strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
