Zelenskyy: Russia Is Not Even Imitating an Attempt to Cease Fire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia is not even imitating an attempt to cease fire.

“Throughout the past night, the Russian army continued striking Ukrainian positions. As of 7 a.m., more than 140 attacks on frontline positions had been recorded. The Russians carried out 10 assault operations overnight, most of them in the Sloviansk direction. They also launched more than 850 drones of various types: FPV, Lancet, and others. There were also attack drones. The use of reconnaissance drones in the skies over frontline communities did not stop either.

All of this clearly demonstrates that there was not even an imitation attempt from the Russian side to cease fire at the front. As after the previous day, Ukraine will respond symmetrically following today’s events as well. We will defend our positions and people’s lives. Russia must end its war, and everyone will truly notice it once movement toward peace begins,” he said.

Earlier, the Kremlin announced a ceasefire from midnight on May 8 until May 10. A statement by Russia’s Defense Ministry said that “strikes by missile forces and artillery, long-range precision sea- and air-based weapons, and strike unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukrainian Armed Forces deployment sites and infrastructure linked to the military-industrial complex and armed forces deep inside Ukrainian territory are being halted.”

At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that beginning at 6 p.m. on May 7, Russia deployed 67 drones, 56 of which were shot down. Eleven drones hit targets at eight locations, while debris fell in seven areas.
